It was a very early start for Neil Turner and Chris Roberts who travelled down to Newmarket for the Eastern Counties Cycling Association Festival event. The field was small (around 70 riders) but contained Joe Perrett who took the bronze medal at the 2010 National 10 mile TT and was beaten on that day by Bradley Wiggins of Team Skyby just a minute.
The outward leg was easier than the return thanks to the cold and swirling wind but Chris was close to his all-time personal best with a great 23:22 (25.6mph) – his fastest of the year. Neil was confident at the start having ridden the TT league Thursday on a heavy tandem and his solo bike seemed very light and speedy – enough for him to set 21:42 (27.6 mph) which is just outside his personal best and the club record he set last year. Neil was delighted and took 6th overall. The event, predictably, was won by Joe Perrett in an amazing 19:42 (30.5mph!!!!).
Hmmmmmm
, next time you see Wiggins on the telly in a Tour de France Time Trial that means Neil could be just 3 minutes behind Bradley Wiggins and Chris about 4.5 minutes behind if its just 10 miles and pretty flat – not too shabby for a pair of veterans from the Norfolk Riviera!!!!
