Great Yarmouth cycling club

Club Runs

Club runs are the traditional easy group ride for all abilities. The golden rule in GYCC is that the pace of the day is that of the slowest rider so everyone is welcome and should not feel intimidated.

Occasionally we split the clubrun at the start or mid-way into faster and slower groups to keep the experienced and inexperienced happy. Whatever happens, you can be assured of a warm welcome and reassured that you will not be “dropped” because your are not fast enough. You will never have to find your own and lonely way home!

Social

In the past, club runs would last all day with a packed lunch! Today, we start at 8.30 on Sundays and usually return by lunchtime at the latest. This allows time for us to enjoy our cycling and keep a normal life!

We plan to use quiet country lanes where we can relax away from the traffic and, especially if you are new to cycling or the area, enjoy some Norfolk scenery and challenging lumps and bumps – do not let anyone tell you the Broads are flat!

Club runs are a great way to start cycling with GYCC, meet some like-minded friends and enjoy some cycling banter, encouragement and club run humour.

We normally advise that club runs are for those aged 12-112 (older by special agreement) and for those under 14 we would expect them to be accompanied by an adult. Contact us for more info.

Tuesdays

Pat Smith runs our mid-week club run. Meet outside the Ferry Boat Inn, Riverside Road at 10.30 for a gentle and relaxing ride – perfect for novices.

Sundays

Sunday is the traditional club run. We meet outside The Arches on the corner of Crab Lane and Beccles Road for an 8.30 departure.

Norman Harlow, our club chairman and club run Captain, will email details of direction and outline route a few days prior depending on the weather (we like to have a tail wind home!) and if we are heading North we have a meet at Haven Bridge House at 8.45 and Caister Lidl at 9am.

Just drop us an email and ask to be added to the distribution list.
